Bird Book plaster, wood, watercolour, wax, 12"x18"x4" Four carved birds are propped against a cast plaster book. The work examines the representation of birds using contrast and variation. From left to right, a pure white bird is followed by a white bird that has been smudged, and then a bird painted with all colours until they saturate into blackness, the last carved bird has a dappled brown surface. Reference is also made to a finite and material natural world, now becoming increasingly damaged. The other images below respond to similar themes.
